HYDERABAD: A man was apprehended for fatally stabbing a dog and subsequently throwing its body from a two-storey structure in Jummerath Bazar on Saturday. The accused, named Satyanarayana, is a daily wage worker who allegedly acted in a fit of rage after his son was bitten by a street dog.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded when Satyanarayana’s son was outside setting off firecrackers. The noise caused the dog to become agitated, leading it to bite the child on the hand. “Upon learning about this, a furious Satyanarayana attacked the dog,
esulting in its death,” stated a police official involved in the investigation.
Residents recorded a video in which Satyanarayana was seen wielding a stick and threatening a bystander who questioned his actions. Despite efforts by others to step in, he justified his actions as a response to his son’s injury. The boy received medical treatment for his bite and scratch wounds and is reported to be in stable condition.
Satyanarayana resides with his wife and two sons in the same building where the dog’s remains were found. Following the incident, he disposed of the dog’s carcass in the Musi River, where police later retrieved it for a post-mortem examination. Gunj police have filed a case against him under Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for animal cruelty. Additional charges may be considered concerning his assault on bystanders after further complaints are made.
