Bhopal: Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case sparked row over her statement saying that former Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare who treated her “very badly” died because she had cursed him.
“I had told him you will be destroyed, and he was gone in less than two months,” bragged Sadhvi Pragya, a 2008 Malegaon blasts accused who has been named a BJP candidate for the national election.
Karkare, who died in action during the Mumbai terror attacks, was the man responsible for tracking down Sadhvi’s motorcycle which was used in the blast. Later, Thakur and a serving army officer Lt Colonel SK Purohit were identified as the main suspects behind the blasts that rocked Malegaon in 2006. He was awarded the Ashok Chakra for his bravery in facing the Mumbai terror attack.
A massive debate has been triggered in the country over her alleged involvement in Malegaon blasts and the BJP nominating her candidature from Bhopal despite her tainted past. Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is expected to file her nomination from Bhopal on April 23. Bhopal will go to polls on May 12.
