More than 24 lakh complaints were received on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) last year, with reported fraud losses amounting to ₹22,495 crore, according to official data.
The figures highlight the growing scale of online financial fraud and digital scams across the country.
Financial fraud reporting system
The Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS), launched in 2021 under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, enables immediate reporting of financial cyber fraud to prevent further siphoning of funds.
Officials stated that as of December 31, 2025, more than ₹8,189 crore had been saved through timely intervention under the system. Additionally, over 12.21 lakh SIM cards and 3.03 lakh IMEIs were blocked based on inputs from police authorities.
FIRs and helpline support
Authorities clarified that complaints filed through the NCRP are handled by respective state law enforcement agencies under applicable laws. The toll-free helpline number 1930 has been operational to assist citizens in reporting cyber financial fraud cases quickly.
Law enforcement agencies are responsible for converting complaints into FIRs, conducting investigations, filing charge sheets and taking further legal action.
Suspect registry initiative
In September 2024, the central government launched a suspect registry in collaboration with banks and financial institutions to track identifiers linked to cyber criminals.
Officials said that by December 2025, more than 21.65 lakh suspect identifier records had been received from banks, while 26.48 lakh “layer 1” mule accounts were shared with participating entities. Transactions worth ₹9,055.27 crore were reportedly declined through this coordinated effort.
Authorities have urged citizens to report cyber fraud promptly through the NCRP portal or by calling 1930 to improve the chances of recovering funds.
