Ritesh Agarwal, the founder of OYO, has announced a public call for renaming Oravel Stays, the parent company of OYO. The winning name could earn the contributor ₹3 lakh and a chance to meet Ritesh himself. This initiative coincides with OYO’s parent gearing up for a highly anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO).
In a post on Instagram, Ritesh outlined the vision: the new name should be bold, global, tech-forward, one-word, and unbound by any specific culture or language. It should also have the potential to scale beyond hospitality, representing a larger ecosystem of innovation and urban living — with the .com domain ideally available.
“This is not about renaming OYO the hotel chain or any consumer product,” Ritesh clarified. “It’s about rebranding the corporate engine powering a global network of modern living.”
Submissions for name ideas are already open and will close soon.
Insiders suggest the chosen name might also double as the brand for a new premium hotels app that OYO has in the pipeline, adding even more weight to this naming challenge.
With this move, Ritesh aims to craft an identity for a new-age global tech brand — born in India, but made for the world.
