Paint warehouse set on fire due to carelessly stored explosives
THRISSUR: A massive fire broke out around 8:45 am on Monday at a paint storage warehouse belonging to Ukken’s Rani Glass & Plywood in Chalakudy, sparking panic across the area due to thick black smoke and the potential threat of explosions.
Fire and police teams rushed to the scene and launched immediate firefighting efforts. As of the latest update, they are still battling to bring the flames and dense smoke under full control. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.
The situation could have turned catastrophic, as gas cylinders were reportedly stored nearby. Quick action by emergency responders ensured their safe removal, preventing what could have been a deadly explosion.
Local residents expressed concern over the intensity of the smoke and the fire’s proximity to other buildings. Officials are working to ensure the flames don’t spread beyond the warehouse premises.
This fire comes barely a month after a state-run liquor outlet in Pathanamthitta was gutted by a similar blaze on May 14. And in October 2024, a fireworks mishap at Veerarkavu Temple in Kasaragod had left over 150 injured, highlighting growing concerns about fire safety standards in the state.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of Monday’s fire.
