Pakistan has accused India of releasing water from the Uri dam without prior warning as retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. The sudden release has caused flooding along the Jhelum River, impacting areas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Reports say residents in Muzaffarabad and Chakoti were urgently evacuated after emergency alerts were sounded through loudspeakers. People living near the riverbanks were warned to stay away and stop fishing activities.

Floodwaters entered low-lying areas such as Kohala and Dalkot, damaging homes, livestock, and crops. Pakistani officials described the situation as a “major crisis” and said the sudden flooding caught residents completely off guard.

Local authorities reported that water levels rose rapidly, leading to widespread panic. “We were not warned,” residents told local media as they scrambled to save lives and belongings.

In a strong statement, Pakistan accused India of waging a “water war,” calling it a violation of international norms and the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistani Prime Minister also expressed willingness to cooperate with any international investigation into the Pahalgam attack but condemned what he called India’s “reckless actions.”

Meanwhile, India has not officially responded to the allegations. There are reports suggesting that water may have been released from the Uri dam due to heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, rather than as a deliberate act.

Tensions between the two countries remain high following the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India after the Pahalgam terror attack.
