Dubai: Pakistan fight back after early collapse
Pakistan survived a major scare to beat Bangladesh by 11 runs in the Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday. The victory secured their spot in the final, where they will face arch-rivals India on Sunday, September 28.
Pakistan stumble early but recover late
Put in to bat first, Pakistan endured a disastrous start as Bangladesh’s pace attack, led by comeback bowler Taskin Ahmed, reduced them to 49 for 5 inside 10 overs. However, crucial lower-order contributions from Mohammad Haris (31), Mohammad Nawaz (25) and Shaheen Afridi (19) helped the side post a competitive 135 for 8 in 20 overs. Taskin was the standout performer for Bangladesh with figures of 3 for 30.
Bangladesh lose momentum in chase
Chasing 136, Bangladesh appeared favourites at the halfway mark but faltered against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling. Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi and Saim Ayub shared key breakthroughs, while Shamim Hossain’s 30 was the lone resistance for Bangladesh. They eventually finished at 124 for 9, falling short by 11 runs.
Bowlers seal it for Pakistan
Pakistan’s spirited comeback was powered by their bowlers. Haris Rauf dismissed two crucial lower-order batters, while Shaheen Afridi’s early strikes kept the chase under control. Despite late resistance, Bangladesh’s batting collapse proved costly.
India vs Pakistan final on Sunday
The much-anticipated final between India and Pakistan will take place on Sunday, September 28, in Dubai. The contest promises high stakes as the two Asian giants face off once again in the tournament.
