A viral video has captured the chaotic scene onboard Air India flight AI 909, where passengers became increasingly agitated due to a significant delay and lack of communication from the crew. The flight, scheduled to depart at 8:25 AM from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Republic Day eve, was delayed for several hours due to a technical issue.
In the video, shared by a passenger, travelers can be seen demanding answers from the crew, with some banging the overhead bin and shouting for the doors to be opened. “We don’t trust you,” one passenger is heard saying, while another yells, “Open the door!” The captain can be heard explaining over the intercom that the airplane jack needed to be connected, but this did little to calm the frustrated passengers.
The situation escalated as passengers started feeling suffocated due to malfunctioning air conditioning. One passenger, who posted about the incident on social media, described the experience as “horrible” and criticized the crew for not addressing the issue sooner. “The crew did not provide any relief until passengers forced them to open the gates and deboard,” the passenger wrote.
After several hours of waiting, the flight was eventually deboarded around 1 PM and finally took off at 4:32 PM, over six hours later than scheduled. The passenger also expressed disappointment with the airline’s handling of the situation, noting that the captain never left the cockpit to address the passengers’ concerns.
