New Delhi: An Air India flight travelling from Phuket to Delhi encountered severe turbulence on Monday, briefly losing around 300 feet in altitude and leaving several passengers and crew members with minor injuries.
The incident occurred on flight AI2379, which experienced intense turbulence during its journey to the national capital. According to multiple reports, the aircraft suddenly dropped approximately 300 feet before the pilots regained control and continued the flight safely.
Several passengers and crew sustain minor injuries
Air India confirmed that the aircraft landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and that all passengers and crew disembarked without further incident.
In an official statement, the airline said that those who sustained minor injuries were immediately taken to a medical facility at the airport for treatment.
“The flight landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers and crew have disembarked. Those injured were provided immediate medical attention,” the airline said.
Airline prioritises passenger safety
While the sudden altitude loss caused panic among those on board, there were no reports of serious injuries or major damage to the aircraft.
Severe turbulence, often caused by unstable weather conditions or changes in air currents, can occur unexpectedly during flights. Aviation experts advise passengers to keep their seat belts fastened whenever seated, even when the seat belt sign is switched off, as a precaution against sudden turbulence.
Air India has not indicated any further operational impact from the incident, and the aircraft completed its journey safely.
