New Delhi: In a development, which may only add to the problems of Ayurveda product giant Patanjali, an official in Uttarakhand revealed that the company never disclosed that its new medicine kit was for coronavirus when it applied for a license.

On Tuesday, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev launched ‘Coronil’, the medicine that Patanjali claimed is a cure for the Corona Virus. The Yoga Guru also claimed that it was the first Ayurveda medicine, which provides 100 per cent cure for Coronavirus.

However, within a day, the government had asked Patanjali to stop advertising the product and the Ministry of Ayush also asked Patanjali to furnish details of the composition of the medicine and other details about the research.

Now, highly placed sources said that the company had sought license for an ‘immunity booster’ and a cure for cough and fever and it did not mention a word about Corona Virus while applying for drug license.

The government also asked the licensing authority of the Uttarakhand government to provide copies of the licence and product approval details of the medicines, which were developed at Patanjali’s lab in Hardwar, reported NDTV.

“As per Patanjali’s application, we issued them license. They didn’t mention coronavirus, we only approved license for immunity booster, cough and fever. We’ll issue them a notice asking how they got permission to make the kit (for COVID-19),” YS Rawat, Licence Officer at the Uttarakhand Ayurveda Department, was quoted as telling news agency ANI.
