Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, in his role as Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, emphasized the collective responsibility of maintaining cleanliness at the launch of the Swachh Andhra – Swachh Divas programme in Namburu on Saturday. The initiative is aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment across the state.
During his visit, Kalyan toured a waste management plant, interacting with workers and inquiring about its operations. He also took the opportunity to felicitate 35 Swachh workers who had dedicated themselves during recent floods, showcasing the vital role these individuals play in maintaining public hygiene. Accompanied by Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar and Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra, Kalyan visited an exhibition featuring fruits and vegetables grown using compost from waste-to-wealth centres.
Officials provided a detailed explanation of the three-bin system for door-to-door waste collection, as well as machinery used for recycling plastic waste and managing sanitary waste. Kalyan also inspected the process of vermi-composting, an initiative aimed at turning waste into valuable resources.
In his address, Kalyan reinforced the idea that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, extending beyond sanitation workers and volunteers. “Cleanliness is a reflection of our thoughts and should be incorporated into our daily routines,” he stated. He further highlighted that a garbage-free society begins at home and emphasized plans for sustainable waste management, including segregating waste at the source and turning waste into wealth through composting and recycling.
Kalyan also discussed the management of bio-waste, particularly from hospitals, and the need for strict pollution control and health safety measures. He assured that a special action plan would be developed with the support of NGOs and other stakeholders to address these issues effectively. Additionally, he confirmed that the proposed pay hike for CLAP workers would be presented to the Cabinet for approval.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged public representatives and officials to actively participate in the Swachh Andhra programme, which is held on the third Saturday of every month.
