Patiala: A routine house-viewing turned into a frightening ordeal for a Patiala couple after a Pitbull allegedly attacked them when they rang the doorbell of a house in Ghuman Nagar on Tuesday evening.
Ankit Sabharwal and his wife Shifali had visited the locality with a property dealer to view a house they were considering buying. According to the account, the dog rushed out as soon as the doorbell was pressed and allegedly attacked Shifali.
Woman suffers serious injuries
Shifali sustained bite injuries to her arm and other parts of her body and reportedly required surgery. She remains under treatment at a private hospital in Patiala.
Ankit also suffered deep bite injuries to his legs and back while attempting to pull the dog away from his wife and protect her during the attack.
Bystanders reportedly rushed to help the couple. A woman was seen emerging from the house with a stick and attempting to drive the dog away, while other residents later joined the effort.
CCTV footage captures attack
A purported CCTV video of the incident has surfaced on social media. The footage reportedly shows the dog repeatedly lunging at the couple as they attempt to escape.
Several people can be seen intervening with sticks before eventually helping the injured couple move away from the animal.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety measures required when keeping powerful dogs in residential areas, particularly where visitors and neighbours may come into close contact with them.
Another dog attack raises concern
The incident comes amid concerns over dog attacks in Patiala. On August 9, a young girl was allegedly mauled by a stray dog while walking through the Guru Nanak Nagar area.
The latest incident has again brought attention to responsible pet ownership, public safety and the need for adequate precautions to prevent dog attacks in residential neighbourhoods.
