NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, hailed the ongoing Maha Kumbh as a powerful symbol of “unity in diversity,” describing it as a confluence of equality and harmony. He emphasized how the festival, held at the Sangam in Prayagraj—where the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers meet—unites people from all walks of life, transcending caste and social distinctions.

“The Maha Kumbh is a celebration of unity. The rich and poor come together, share meals at the ‘bhandaras’, and receive ‘prasad’. It represents India’s centuries-old tradition of equality,” said Modi. He also highlighted other similar religious gatherings, such as the Kumbh festivals in Ujjain, Nasik, Haridwar, and the ‘Pushkaram’ festivals along rivers like Godavari, Krishna, and Narmada.

In his speech, Modi further noted the spiritual connection between temples and traditions, from Kumbakonam to Tirukkad-Yur and beyond. He mentioned the Ganga Sagar Mela in West Bengal, where millions of devotees gathered to take a holy dip on Sankranti, symbolizing the continued social and spiritual unity across the country.

PM Modi also praised Indian scientists, particularly for their achievements in space, including the successful satellite docking by ISRO, making India the fourth country to achieve this milestone. He also highlighted their groundbreaking work on growing plants in space, an experiment that could lead to growing vegetables in space in the future.
