PM Modi likely to kick-start BJP poll campaign in Bihar

Bihar: BJP is all set to kick-start its election campaign for the upcoming assembly elections with Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting Bihar on Saturday.  A high-level meeting was held to review security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Patna and his rally in Muzaffarpur, officials said.

Modi is likely to launvj the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for the forthcoming state assembly polls from Muzaffarpur. Modi will arrive here by a special plane from Delhi and launch Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay Rashtriya Gramin Joyti Yojna and innaugurate the new campus of IIT-Patna. Modi would also attend two other functions in the Bihar capital before leaving for Muzaffarpur, around 70 km from Patna, to address a public meeting, according to officials.

Although Modi’s security is looked after by the Special Protection Group (SPG) – the nation’s elite commando force – theBihar governmenthas directed some of its senior officers to prepare special security arrangement for his rally, the official said. “Bihar will be on full alert during Modi’s rally,” said a police officer of additional director general rank.

Modi’s rally at Gandhi Maidan here was rocked by serial bomb blasts on October 27, 2013. Modi was then the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. At least five people were killed and nearly 100 injured in those blasts.

PM to launch two trains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two trains and commission a 38km-long new line in poll-bound Bihar on Saturday. Accompanied by Railway MinisterSuresh Prabhu, he will flag off Rajgir-Biharsharif-Daniawan-Fatuha passenger train and Patna-Mumbai AC Suvidha Express at Veterinary College ground in Patna.

Prabhu, who is already in Bihar, said the state was important due to its large population and railways needed to improve its services. “In Bihar. Reviewing all projects, ways of improving services to help our commuters. Bihar important state with large population. We must improve here,” he tweeted.

Prabhu has allocated Rs 446 crore for passenger amenities and facilities in Bihar in this year’s Rail Budget. Expediting projects, railway is likely to commission Patna-Ganga and Munger-Ganga bridges in the current fiscal as money has been sanctioned.

A total outlay of Rs 2,393 crore, a 144 per cent jump over last year, has been allocated to Bihar in the Rail Budget 2015-16. Elections are due in the state later this year.
