Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday at his residence in Delhi. This meeting followed the BJP’s remarkable victory in the Haryana Assembly polls, where the party secured a record third term by winning 48 out of 90 seats.
The meeting comes at a crucial time, as Nayab Singh Saini is expected to discuss the possibility of continuing in his role after the BJP’s successful campaign. Sources indicate that he is in Delhi for consultations with senior BJP leadership regarding the finalisation of his new Cabinet.
In the recent elections, the BJP overcame initial projections and emerged with its best-ever performance in Haryana, stunning the Congress party and undermining their attempt at a comeback. This victory is particularly significant as it defies earlier exit polls that had forecasted a comfortable win for Congress.
Nayab Singh Saini, representing the Ladwa constituency, won decisively against Congress’s Mewa Singh by a margin of 16,054 votes. The Congress party, which had shown early promise during the counting process, ultimately secured 37 seats. Meanwhile, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) managed to win two seats, and three Independent candidates also emerged victorious.
Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contested independently following unsuccessful seat-sharing negotiations with Congress, did not win any seats. Additionally, the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which had previously won 10 seats in 2019, also failed to make any gains in this election.
In his remarks following the election, Nayab Singh Saini expressed gratitude to the voters, stating that the results indicated a clear endorsement of the government’s policies under PM Modi’s leadership. He emphasised that the electorate had “put a stamp” on the party’s governance.
During their meeting, PM Modi commended Saini and the BJP for their electoral success in Haryana. He highlighted that the party received support from all communities, attributing this to the perceived good governance that the party has demonstrated.
As Nayab Singh Saini prepares to solidify his Cabinet and continue leading Haryana, the BJP’s win sets the stage for another term of governance in the state. The focus will likely remain on maintaining the trust of the electorate and delivering on the promises that contributed to this significant victory.
With the BJP’s performance redefining expectations in Haryana politics, all eyes will be on the new government’s strategies and initiatives in the coming months.
