Greater Noida: PM Modi calls for self-reliance amid global disruption

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025 (UPITS-2025) at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. Addressing a large gathering, he emphasised the importance of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) in times of global disruption, warning that countries that rely on others for growth will compromise their development.

“Disruption doesn’t wander us; we find new opportunities even in such situations. India is strengthening its foundation for the upcoming decade through Atmanirbharta,” PM Modi said. He noted that India continues to present “attractive growth” even as global economies face uncertainty.

Remembering Deendayal Upadhyaya’s message of Antyodaya

The Prime Minister began his address by remembering Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his birth anniversary. He said that the philosophy of Antyodaya—development reaching the last person in the queue—was central to India’s growth journey.

“Today, India is showing this path of inclusive development to the world. The message of social justice given by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya is being reflected in our policies and programmes,” he said.

Fintech and inclusive growth

Highlighting India’s digital revolution, PM Modi said the fintech sector has become a driver of inclusive progress. Platforms such as UPI and Aadhaar, he noted, have brought financial empowerment to all sections of society.

“Whether it is a tea seller or someone shopping in a mall, both are using UPI today. The open platforms we created are inclusive for everyone, and their impact is visible across the world,” he said.

Uttar Pradesh’s rise as a manufacturing hub

Lauding Uttar Pradesh for its manufacturing growth, PM Modi said the state is playing a key role in India’s journey towards self-reliance.

“Of all the mobile phones manufactured in India, 55% are made in UP. The state will also play a crucial role in India’s semiconductor sector,” he stated.

He further underlined progress in the defence sector, with the upcoming production of AK-203 rifles in a factory built with Russian collaboration and the development of a defence corridor in the state. “Our forces want to reduce dependence on other nations. A vibrant defence sector is taking shape here,” he said.

UPITS-2025: A global trade platform

The Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025, being held from September 25 to 29 under the theme “Ultimate Sourcing Begins Here”, aims to promote innovation, integration, and internationalisation.

The show will feature over 2,400 exhibitors, with an expected footfall of 1.25 lakh B2B visitors and 4.5 lakh B2C visitors. The three-pronged buyer strategy includes international buyers, domestic B2B, and B2C participants, offering opportunities for exporters, MSMEs, and consumers alike.

Sectors to be showcased include handicrafts, textiles, leather, agriculture, food processing, IT, electronics, and AYUSH. The exhibition will also highlight Uttar Pradesh’s art, culture, and cuisine.

Russia is participating as the partner country, adding strategic significance and opening avenues for bilateral trade, technology exchange, and long-term cooperation.

Building India’s self-reliant future

Concluding his address, PM Modi reiterated that India will no longer accept dependence on other nations for its growth. Instead, it is positioning itself as a leader in manufacturing, fintech, and defence while upholding inclusive development.

“India is strengthening its position on the global stage. Through Atmanirbhar Bharat, we are laying a strong foundation for the coming decades,” he said.
