THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala General Education Department has launched an investigation after reports emerged that a POCSO case accused, who is also a popular vlogger, participated as a celebrity guest during a government school’s reopening ceremony in the capital.

The incident took place during the “Praveshanotsavam”, Kerala’s annual school reopening festival, held state-wide on Monday. The event is meant to warmly welcome students back after the summer break. The participation of the accused at one such function in Thiruvananthapuram triggered widespread backlash once it surfaced in the media.

Responding swiftly, General Education Minister V Sivankutty demanded an explanation from the officials involved. His office confirmed that the Deputy Director of Education (DDE) has been directed to conduct a detailed probe and submit a report without delay.

Meanwhile, the Kerala government had turned this year’s Praveshanotsavam into a grand statewide affair, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurating the flagship function at a school in Alappuzha.

The presence of a person facing serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at a school event has sparked concern over the vetting process and raised serious questions about accountability within the education department.
