In a major bust, police in Rakkiyapalayam exposed a covert online betting network and took into custody a 49-year-old man named Jagatheesan, a resident of Pasupathipalayam in Karur district.

Acting on a confidential tip-off, law enforcement officers raided his home and uncovered a large-scale gambling setup. Jagatheesan was found to be wagering on Indian Premier League cricket matches through a newly developed mobile application. He reportedly collected payments through Google Pay and distributed virtual points, priced between ₹100 and ₹1,000 each, to participants.

According to the investigation, Jagatheesan allegedly tricked users by letting them win small bets initially to build trust, only to manipulate outcomes when they placed larger wagers. This led to significant financial losses for unsuspecting players.

Authorities revealed that over 1,500 points had been traded, indicating that several lakhs of rupees were likely involved in the scam. During the search, police seized four smartphones and a laptop believed to be used for managing the illicit operations.

Officers suspect a wider network may be linked to the betting ring and are continuing their probe to identify other individuals possibly involved. Jagatheesan has been booked, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The bust highlights the growing reach of illegal online betting and the need for increased digital surveillance. Police urged the public to remain cautious about suspicious mobile apps and report any gambling activity.
