Authorities in the Dominican Republic are interrogating a young man who was seen swimming with 20-year-old University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki shortly before she vanished. The Indian-origin student was last spotted near the Riu Republica Resort beach in Punta Cana at 4:50 a.m. on March 6.
According to reports from Listin Diario, Konanki and the unidentified man entered the ocean together before she was later observed taking a walk alone. Investigators are questioning both the man and her classmates to verify details about her final moments. It remains unclear whether the man under scrutiny is a fellow student from the University of Pittsburgh.
Surveillance footage captured Konanki and her friends near the shoreline before she disappeared. Multiple agencies, including Dominican Civil Defense, the National Police, and the Indian Embassy, are engaged in a widespread search for the missing student.
Konanki, originally from Chantilly, Virginia, was 5-foot-3 with black hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a brown bikini, bracelets on both wrists, and an anklet when she went missing.
Her father, Subbarayudu Konanki, expressed his distress, emphasizing that his daughter was ambitious and aspired to become a doctor. He urged authorities to expand their investigation beyond the drowning theory.
