Hardoi: A 24-year-old woman who was seven months pregnant was allegedly beaten to death by her husband following an argument in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, police said.
Argument turns fatal
The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Mayora village under the Bilgram Kotwali police station area. The deceased, identified as Kiran, had been married to Vishal Pal for around three years. The couple also had a one-year-old daughter.
According to police and reports based on the family’s account, an argument between Kiran and Vishal escalated into violence. Vishal allegedly attacked her with a wooden stick, leaving her seriously injured.
Kiran’s mother-in-law, Prema, reportedly tried to intervene and was also assaulted. Neighbours alerted the police after hearing screams, following which Kiran was taken to the Community Health Centre in Bilgram. Doctors, however, declared her dead.
Husband detained as investigation continues
Police reached the village and conducted inquest proceedings before sending Kiran’s body for post-mortem examination. Vishal was subsequently detained by police.
Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Subodh Gautam said further legal action would be taken after receiving the family’s complaint and completing the investigation. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the argument and the events that led to Kiran’s death.
The tragedy has renewed concerns over domestic violence and the vulnerability of women facing violence within their homes. Kiran’s death has also left behind a young daughter, while the family awaits the outcome of the investigation.
Police have not yet announced the final charges in the case, and the allegations against the husband remain subject to investigation and due legal process.
