Mumbai: With the deadlock between the BJP and their ‘friend’ Shiv Sena still continuing over the seat sharing and rotation of Chief Minister’s post in Maharashtra, it so seems that the state may head for President’s rule if the new government in the state is not formed by November 7.
Finance Minister and BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said on Friday that new government will have to be in place within the stipulated time, or else the President will have to intervene.
It may be recalled that eight days have passed after the results ofthe Maharashtra Assembly polls were out and there has been no headway in the government formation with the Sena keeping forth its demand for 50-50 seat sharing formula and also pressing for the CM’s post for young Aaditya Thackeray, son of Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray. The BJP has refused to budge down. The tenure of the existing Legislative Assembly ends on November 8.
Mungantiwar, while hailing the BJP-Sena alliance to be ‘stronger than Fevicol or Ambuja cement’, added that the formation of the government will happen soon.
“People of Maharashtra have not given mandate to any one party, but the mandate has been awarded to the BJP-Sena alliance. The talks of alliance were delayed due to Diwali. It will all start in a day or two,” he said adding that the main hurdle on the path of government formation was the demand from the Sena to share the CM’s post for 2.5 years.
“We have already named Devendra Fadnavis as the CM of the state. Now the state-level leaders will set together and find a way out. If necessary, the central leadership will intervene. Sena too wants the government to be formed at the earliest,” he said.
