UK lawmaker Priti Patel has fiercely denounced the recent terror incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a horrifying act of brutality. The attack, which occurred on April 22, claimed the lives of 26 tourists and has since sparked global outrage.
Speaking in the British Parliament, Patel pressed the UK government to intensify its strategic security ties with India, highlighting the persistent threat posed by terror outfits operating from Pakistani soil. She compared the gruesome nature of the Pahalgam killings—where innocent victims were executed at close range—to earlier deadly assaults in Indian cities like Mumbai and Delhi.
Patel called for reinforced cooperation in intelligence-sharing and questioned whether Britain had offered any counter-terror assistance to New Delhi post-attack. She urged the UK to clarify its stance on The Resistance Front (TRF), which took responsibility for the killings and is believed to be a front for Lashkar-e-Taiba.
She further pressed the government on reported links between Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hamas, raising concerns about global terror networks. Patel also demanded transparency on whether UK taxpayer aid to Pakistan is being monitored to prevent diversion toward terror activities.
Additionally, she sought details on diplomatic efforts by the UK to calm tensions in South Asia and to safeguard community harmony at home, amid fears of cross-border unrest spilling over.
India has responded with precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting militant hideouts in PoJK. Ceasefire violations are being closely observed by Indian forces.
