Pune: A 28-year-old Government Railway Police (GRP) constable was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons and robbed near Pune Railway Station after one of the suspects accused him of informing his mother about his drug use.
Constable attacked near railway station
According to the complaint, constable Akshay Mahadev Bombale was travelling home after duty when he encountered Vicky Patro, Rocky Patro and two unidentified men near the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, GRP.
Police said Bombale had questioned the two named suspects a day earlier after allegedly finding them consuming substances near the railway area. On Monday evening, the men reportedly confronted him, believing that he had told Vicky’s mother about his alcohol and marijuana use.
The argument allegedly escalated, with the accused abusing and threatening the constable before attacking him with sharp weapons. Bombale suffered injuries to his neck and chest and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Mobile phone and gold chain stolen
The attackers allegedly took advantage of the assault to steal Bombale’s mobile phone and gold chain before fleeing the spot. Police have registered a case and are investigating the identities and roles of the unidentified accomplices.
Other reports said the constable’s condition was stable after treatment and that he required stitches for his neck injury. Four people have reportedly been detained in connection with the incident.
The incident has raised concerns over the risks faced by police personnel while intervening in suspected substance-use activities around busy public spaces.
