With temperatures soaring past 40°C in Pune, students living in hostels and PG accommodations are finding it difficult to cope due to restrictions on air conditioners and coolers. Many PGs charge high fees but only allow table fans, which students say are insufficient.

Medical and competitive exam aspirants, including those from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), complain about the lack of affordable options with proper cooling. While premium hostels provide ACs at steep prices (₹18,000 per person), budget accommodations restrict cooling devices. Some PGs permit coolers with extra electricity charges, but costs remain a concern.

Students are urging for a middle ground between affordability and essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay during extreme weather.
