Pune: Police on Sunday recreated the crime scene at Lohagad Fort in Maharashtra’s Pune district as part of the investigation into the alleged murder of realtor Ketan Agarwal, who was allegedly pushed into a gorge by his fiancée and her boyfriend.

The reconstruction exercise was carried out with accused Siya Goyal being taken to the fort at around 6.30 am. Investigators said the exercise was aimed at establishing the exact sequence of events that led to Agarwal’s death on June 18.

According to police, the 26-year-old realtor was allegedly murdered by Goyal, 20, and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary, 22, who are accused of conspiring to kill him.

Crime scene reconstructed with mannequin

As part of the reconstruction, police used a mannequin to recreate the alleged fall from the fort.

The dummy was pushed from the fort walls to determine the possible trajectory and verify the claims made by the accused during questioning.

Police sources said the exercise would help investigators understand precisely how the alleged murder was carried out and whether the statements given by the accused match the physical evidence at the scene.

A senior police official said that the reconstruction was intended to verify the accused’s version regarding the location and manner in which Agarwal was allegedly pushed into the gorge.

The official added that Chaudhary would be taken to the fort separately for a similar reconstruction exercise.

Alleged murder plot planned in advance

The investigation has revealed that the alleged crime may have been meticulously planned.

According to police sources, Goyal and Chaudhary had reportedly conducted a rehearsal at the same location before carrying out the alleged murder.

Investigators suspect that the first attempt to kill Agarwal was allegedly made on June 14, several days before his death.

Police believe the accused carried out a practice run at Lohagad Fort to determine how their plan could be executed.

The findings form part of an expanding investigation that has uncovered alleged online searches, deleted messages and detailed planning before the incident.

Online searches under scanner

Investigators have reportedly found evidence suggesting that the accused searched online for different methods of killing Agarwal before allegedly deciding that pushing him from the fort would be the easiest option.

Police are examining internet search histories, deleted messages and digital communications between the two accused to establish the extent of premeditation involved in the case.

Officials said the ongoing probe is focused on several aspects, including the planning of the alleged crime, the movements of the accused before and after the incident, and their digital footprint.

Motive linked to marriage, say police

According to investigators, Goyal allegedly told police that she did not want to marry Agarwal but feared that calling off the wedding would bring disrepute to her family.

Police claim that she subsequently conspired with Chaudhary to eliminate her fiancé.

Investigators further allege that Goyal had distanced herself from Chaudhary following her engagement but later resumed contact with him.

The alleged motive and the sequence of events leading up to Agarwal’s death are now central to the investigation.

Probe continues

The case has drawn widespread attention due to the alleged planning involved and the nature of the accusations.

Police said further forensic analysis and reconstruction exercises would help establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and strengthen the evidence in the case.

The investigation into the death of Ketan Agarwal remains ongoing, with authorities continuing to examine all available evidence before filing a detailed chargesheet.
