Pune Police have registered a case against a 42-year-old woman for allegedly sexually assaulting a 47-year-old man, recording intimate photos and videos of him, and later blackmailing him for money. The accused has been identified as Gauri Pralhad Wanjale, according to police officials.

FIR details allegations of assault and intimidation

According to the FIR filed at Kothrud Police Station, the incident reportedly took place between mid-November 2024 and October 2025. The complainant told police that he first met the accused on November 7, 2024, during a family visit to Tuljapur, where Wanjale allegedly befriended him by presenting herself as a “sister-like figure”.

In the following months, she allegedly began visiting the complainant’s home frequently and developed a close association with his family. As mentioned in the complaint, the accused requested the victim’s wife to allow him to accompany her on a trip to Kashi Vishwanath, claiming it was a family plan.

Complainant alleges he was drugged and assaulted

The FIR states that during the trip, the woman allegedly gave the complainant intoxicating substances. The man told police that after he lost consciousness, Wanjale sexually assaulted him and recorded obscene photos and videos without his consent. He further alleged that she forced him to stay in Banaras for three days by threatening to release the images online.

Police said these allegations are part of the formal complaint and will be verified during the investigation. There is currently no independent confirmation of the claims beyond the victim’s statement.

Blackmail allegations and monetary demand

After the two returned to Pune, the accused allegedly began demanding ₹2 lakh from the complainant. He told police that Wanjale threatened to circulate the private photos and videos on social media if he did not comply. The FIR also mentions that she allegedly offered to marry him during this period.

Following repeated threats, the complainant approached Kothrud Police Station earlier this month and filed an official complaint.

Police begin investigation

Sandeep Deshmane, Senior Police Inspector at Kothrud Police Station, confirmed to The Free Press Journal that a case has been registered. “It is too early to comment on the matter before the investigation. We are conducting a thorough investigation. Action will be taken accordingly,” he said.

Police have registered offences related to sexual assault, criminal intimidation, and extortion. Further statements and technical evidence will be examined as part of the probe.

Conclusion

The case highlights the increasing number of cyber-intimidation and blackmail complaints being registered across Maharashtra. With the investigation in its early stages, Pune Police have stated that all allegations will be thoroughly scrutinised before further action is taken.
