The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Vipan Kumar, a patwari stationed at Revenue Halqa Nawanshahr-1, following a three-week-long investigation into a bribery case. The arrest comes after his accomplice, Rampal, was caught red-handed accepting a bribe on his behalf.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both individuals at the VB police station in the Jalandhar range.

Bribe Demand and Sting Operation

The incident came to light after a complaint was filed by a resident of New Abadi, Nawanshahr, in SBS Nagar district. The complainant alleged that Kumar had demanded a bribe of ₹5,000 to facilitate the mutation of his ancestral property. The complainant had already paid ₹2,000 to Rampal, who was acting as a middleman. When further demands for money were made, the complainant sought help from the VB.

A spokesperson from the VB explained that after a preliminary verification, they set up a trap on February 14. Rampal was apprehended while accepting an additional ₹3,000 from the complainant, in the presence of two VB officials. However, Vipan Kumar fled the scene and evaded arrest at that time.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau to combat corruption in the state.
