Timely intervention by the Mulavukadu police station team in Kochi has prevented a youth from taking his own life after he posted a suicide note on Reddit. The incident, which occurred on August 14 in Vallarpadam, saw police act swiftly to locate and assist the distressed individual.
The situation began when a Reddit post stated, “I have decided to commit suicide this weekend.” Abhishek, a Kochi resident, noticed the post and informed his wife, Gauri Lakshmi, a clerk in the office of Ernakulam Range DIG Putta Vimaladithya. Gauri promptly alerted the DIG, who directed Ernakulam Rural District Police Chief Vaibhav Saxena to act immediately.
Under Saxena’s direction, the Mulavukad Police tracked the youth’s location and reached his residence within 10 minutes. “The youth was struggling with unemployment and family issues,” explained Sub-Inspector Suresh CM. While personal reasons were cited in the post, police noted that financial dependence and job search frustrations were significant factors.
The youth, who had completed a course in the shipping industry but faced job insecurity, expressed concerns about his mother discovering the situation. The police team advised his family to avoid isolating him and recommended seeking professional support.
In a positive development, the youth contacted Sub-Inspector Suresh the following day, expressing his intention to pursue further studies and move to Chennai for better employment opportunities.
The police team involved in the intervention included Sub-Inspector Suresh C M, Senior Civil Police Officer (CPO) Selvaraj, and CPOs Thomas George and Anoop.
