New Delhi: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, January 9, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a woman to defend him in Parliament on the issue regarding the Rafale Deal.
Gandhi was referring to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s speech on the Rafale Deal in Lok Sabha last week.
While addressing a rally at Jaipur, Gandhi said, “The PM, who claims to have a broad chest had run away from a debate in Parliament on Rafale Deal. The watchman with a 56-inch chest ran away and told a woman, Sitharaman ji to defend him. For two and a half hours, the woman could not defend him. I had asked a straight question answer ‘yes or no’, but she couldn’t answer.”
His remarks provoked a sharp response from PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
Responding to Gandhi in a public meeting in Agra, Modi said, “This is an insult to the women in the country.”
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah tweeted, “Defence Minister @nsitharaman’s outstanding speech in Parliament has silenced the opposition. Unable to counter her on facts, they’re resorting to misogyny. They owe an apology to India’s Nari Shakti.”
Rahul Gandhi’s comments also invited a notice from the National Commission for Women (NCW), which will be served to him tomorrow.
Notably, Sitharaman had responded to Rahul Gandhi on the Rafale Deal during the debate in Lok Sabha, which was not attended by PM Modi.
