During his first visit to Tamil Nadu after the announcement of election dates, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi took aim at the central government, accusing it of favoring the interests of a select few wealthy individuals over the needs of the state. Here are the key points from his address:

1. Ideological Battle: Rahul Gandhi highlighted the ideological battle in India, contrasting the principles of Periyar, social justice, freedom, and equality with those of the Narendra Modi-led government. He criticized the notion of “one nation, one leader, one language” propagated by Modi, emphasizing the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity.

2. Defense of Tamil Language: Asserting the significance of the Tamil language, Rahul Gandhi condemned any attack on it as an attack on the Tamil people. He emphasized the equal importance of all languages and cultures in India.

3. Misuse of Government Agencies: Rahul criticized the misuse of government agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, CBI, and Income Tax department as political weapons. He raised concerns over the freezing of Congress party’s bank accounts before elections, arrests of chief ministers, and threats to opposition leaders.

4. Neglect of Tamil Nadu’s Needs: Rahul Gandhi accused the central government of neglecting Tamil Nadu’s demands, including denied flood relief, lack of support for Tamil fishermen, and ignoring grievances of Tamil farmers. He highlighted the hardships faced by fishermen and farmers, contrasting it with the government’s alleged focus on benefiting a select few wealthy individuals.

5. Labeling of Relief Requests: He criticized the labeling of Tamil Nadu’s requests for flood relief as “Pitchai,” implying a plea for “alms,” suggesting a lack of empathy and support from the Centre.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit and statements underscored the ongoing political dynamics and challenges faced by Tamil Nadu, highlighting the need for equitable policies and support from the central government.
