Rahul Gandhi’s US Visit Sparks BJP Jibe Amid Pahalgam Tragedy
In the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives and injured 12, the Karnataka BJP took a political jab at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of being abroad during national crises.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), BJP’s state unit said, “Every time @RahulGandhi leaves the country, something sinister unfolds back home,” implying a pattern with Gandhi’s current US trip overlapping the tragedy. Gandhi, currently visiting Brown University in Rhode Island, responded by stating he had spoken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and Congress J&K chief Tariq Karra to get updates and expressed solidarity with the victims.
The attack occurred in the Baisaran meadow, a scenic tourist spot near Pahalgam, often called “mini Switzerland.” In response, PM Modi cut short his Saudi Arabia trip, and Home Minister Amit Shah visited Kashmir to assess the situation.
The suspects — identified as Asif Fauji, Suleman Shah, and Abu Talha — reportedly used code names Moosa, Yunus, and Asif, and are linked to prior attacks in the Poonch region, according to PTI.
Adding a regional dimension, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi confirmed that three victims were from Karnataka, deepening the tragedy for the state.
Meanwhile, global leaders, including US President Donald Trump, extended condolences and assured India of international support.
