The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast alerting several regions across the country to expect rainfall starting from March 16 and lasting until March 21, 2024.
Affected states include West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are also projected to receive rainfall on March 20 and 21.
Arunachal Pradesh is anticipated to witness light to moderate rainfall or snowfall in numerous areas. Similar conditions are expected in certain isolated regions of Himachal Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura are also forecasted to experience light to moderate rainfall in specific areas.
Similar weather patterns are expected in isolated areas of Assam & Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Kerala & Mahe.
Between March 16 and 20, Gangetic West Bengal may experience scattered or widespread rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 30-40 kmph.
Likewise, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and East Madhya Pradesh might encounter isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall.
The trough, extending from east Vidarbha to north Tamil Nadu, now stretches from Marathwada to the Comorin Area, crossing interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Consequently, light rainfall is anticipated over Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam between March 16 and 20.
In anticipation of a new western disturbance affecting the Western Himalayan Region starting from the night of March 20, isolated light rainfall or snowfall is expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad on March 20 and 21, and over Himachal Pradesh on March 21.
