Two jawans from the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite guerrilla unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday, police reported.
The incident occurred around 3 pm while the security personnel were on road opening party (ROP) duty, advancing from the Silger camp to the Teklagudam camp, both of which fall under the jurisdiction of the Jagadonga police station area.
According to police, the Maoists had planted IEDs along the Teklagudam road to target security forces. The blast occurred as personnel from the 201 CoBRA battalion were traveling on a motorcycle and a truck. The explosion resulted in the deaths of Vishnu R, who was driving the truck, and Shailendra, who was the assistant driver.
The Bastar police issued a statement confirming the details of the incident and the identities of the deceased CoBRA personnel.
