A Rajasthan Police constable’s career has ended just days after his wedding after a viral video showed several notorious criminals and alleged offenders attending his marriage ceremony, sparking outrage and a departmental probe.

Constable Ashok Bishnoi, who was posted at the Bhalta police station in Jhalawar district, was dismissed from service after footage from his wedding — held in Nagaur earlier this month — showed multiple individuals identified as “wanted” criminals celebrating with him, dancing and showering currency notes during the festivities.

Viral video triggers action

The video, which quickly circulated on social media and police networks, showed several people who are reportedly active offenders in cases of drug trafficking, arms smuggling and other serious crimes standing beside the groom. A departmental inquiry was launched after senior officials viewed the footage.

Investigations found that at least eight individuals from both Rajasthan and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh — some with multiple criminal cases registered against them — were honoured guests at the wedding. One of those identified is Pappu Tanwar, accused in various cases, including encroachment and illegal construction, and others like Durgalal, Ramesh, Ramgopal, Rambabu Ruheda, Atiq Mohammad, Mangilal and Chain Singh, linked to serious offences.

Zero tolerance for criminal links

Jhalawar’s District Superintendent of Police took swift action, citing a zero-tolerance stance on any perceived nexus between police personnel and criminal elements. Constable Bishnoi was dismissed from service, and a broader inquiry is continuing to determine the extent of any links. “Any compromise with the dignity of the uniform will not be tolerated,” a senior official said.

The dismissal underscores the pressure on law enforcement agencies to uphold professional integrity and maintain public trust amidst concerns about improper associations with criminal networks.
