Nagaur: A teacher in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district has been booked for allegedly assaulting a Class 5 student with a wooden stick after the child forgot his notebook at home.
The incident reportedly took place at a private school in Gogelav village on September 26. According to the complaint filed by the student’s father, the teacher allegedly accused the boy of lying about leaving his notebook at home before beating him.
Police registered a case against the teacher on September 28 and have begun an investigation. The student is also undergoing a medical examination to assess the injuries reported by his family.
Student allegedly beaten over forgotten notebook
According to the complaint, the Class 5 student, identified as Himanshu, went to school on September 26 and had inadvertently left his notebook at home.
When the teacher, identified as Jagdish Bhora, asked him for the notebook, the student reportedly explained that he had forgotten it at home. The complaint alleges that the teacher accused him of lying and began abusing him.
The teacher allegedly then beat the child with a wooden stick.
The student’s father told police that the teacher also allegedly pulled the child’s hair and verbally abused him. The complaint further alleges that the teacher warned the boy not to tell anyone about the incident.
Family noticed injuries two days later
The child reportedly returned home after the alleged assault but did not immediately tell his parents what had happened.
According to the family, the boy was in pain and had difficulty sitting comfortably. On Sunday evening, when the pain reportedly became worse, the child began crying.
His parents then asked him what had happened and noticed injury marks on his body. The family subsequently learnt about the alleged assault and approached the authorities.
The student’s father, identified as Gordhan Ram Prajapat, submitted a written complaint to the Nagaur district administration and the Sadar police station seeking action against the teacher.
Police register case under BNS sections
Following the complaint, Sadar police registered a criminal case against the teacher on September 28.
Police booked the accused under Sections 115(2), 126(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The sections relate to voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation, according to the police case details reported by India Today.
The investigation has been handed over to Assistant Sub-Inspector Shivdev Ram.
Sadar police officer ASI Garib Ram said the student’s medical examination was being conducted and that legal action was being taken in the case.
Claims about other students remain unverified
The incident has also led to concerns among some residents in Gogelav.
A local resident reportedly claimed that other children at the school had previously faced similar treatment. However, those additional allegations have not been independently verified, and no separate details confirming such incidents were available in the reports on the case.
The immediate police investigation is focused on the complaint filed by the student’s family and the allegations concerning the Class 5 boy.
Investigation underway
The police are expected to establish the sequence of events through the student’s statement, medical examination and other available evidence.
The medical examination is an important part of the investigation because it can document the nature and extent of any injuries allegedly sustained by the child.
The allegations against the teacher remain allegations at this stage, and the investigation will determine the facts and whether further legal action is warranted.

Discipline-related issues are expected to be handled through appropriate educational and administrative measures rather than physical violence. In this case, the police complaint has put the alleged assault under formal investigation.
