New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be in Jaisalmer on Friday, October 7, on a two-day visit to take stock of the security situation on India’s western border and to discuss security issues with the chief ministers of the border states of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan and BSF top brasses.
As per reports, the review meeting at the Border Security Force`s Sector headquarters (North) will be attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
Besides the CMs, top Border Security Force officers and senior officials of the state governments of Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab will also be present. The minister is expected to visit outposts on the 1,048-km border with Pakistan, which is on high alert after the recent spate of attacks on army camps in Kashmir.
According to the Home Ministry, of the 2,289.66-km border with Pakistan, 2,034.96 km has been covered by physical barriers, including fencing. The remaining 254.80 km is to be covered by physical and non-physical barriers shortly, officials said.
Since there are stretches along the border where construction of physical barriers is not feasible due to geographic constraints, the government plans to deploy technology solutions, which include deployment of cameras, sensors, radars and lasers.
