New Delhi: Union home minister Rajnath Singh told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that the gunmen who stormed the police station and killed seven people in Gurdaspur on Monday came from Pakistan. He based his statment on preliminary evidence.  The home minister informed the Rajya Sabha that the three terrorists might have infiltrated taking advantage of heavy rains and swollen ‘nullahs’ along the India-Pakistan border.

Rajanath singHe also said that India will give a befitting reply to any terror activity launched from across the border.”Any attempts to attack the unity and integrity of India will get a befitting reply. We are dedicated to stopping all terror activities being done from across the border,” he said while making a statement in the Upper House on the terrorist attack in Dinanagar town in Gurdaspur district of Punjab on July 27.

In his statement, made amid din and anti-government slogans by the opposition, Rajnath Singh also lauded the Punjab Police for neutralising the three terrorists.

He said that information was being gathered from the Global Positioning System device seized from the terrorists who, he said, also had a night vision device.

The union home minister said that the Border Security Force was always on the alert though some terrorist might have succeeded in infiltrating due to heavy rains and swelling of rivers and nullahs on the border.

Bomb scare in Gurdaspur after suspicious bag found near bus stand

Three days after witnessing a terror attack in nearby Dinanagar town, panic gripped Gurdaspur on Thursday afternoon when a suspicious black packet with wires attached was spotted on a road near the city’s bus stand.

Punjab police inspector general (IG), border range, Ishwar Chander told mediapersons that the area had been cordoned off after information about the suspected bomb in a lane adjoining the local DAV School near the bus stand.

“It is a precautionary measure. We are taking no chances after Monday’s terrorist attack. A bomb disposal squad has been called in,” the IG added.
