Ujjain: Woe is he whose namesake is a donkey! A bigger insult? Your namesake being sold for a mere Rs 11,000.

It so happened that during the annual donkey fair held here, a couple of donkeys named after the convict pair-disgraced sect leader Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and his adopted “daughter” Honeypreet Insan, were sold on the last day of the five-day-long fair.

Sellers are known to give catchy and fancy names to sell the donkeys even though their breed and physical features play a major role in finalising a deal. During the fair, some donkeys bore some very well known names like GST, Sultan, Bahubali and Jio.

The seller of the uniquely named pair of donkeys explained that he had brought the pair of donkeys from Gujarat and wanted to sell them for Rs 20,000, eventually settling for Rs 11,000.

He lamented over the fact that he wasn’t able to find a buyer willing to shell out Rs 20,000 for the donkeys. When asked about his reasons for naming the donkeys as such, he said that he wanted to put out the message that the criminal pair had to pay for their crimes.

At the annual fair, on the banks of the river Kshipra, the animals were brought from various states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Gujarat apart from those from Madhya Pradesh.

The organisers claimed that around 2,000 donkeys were entered for sale at the fair this year.

Facilities for the fair were provided by the The Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC).
