Mumbai: The much talked about “#MeToo” movement had created a lot of buzz, especially in the Indian cinema industry, after “Aashiq Banaya Aapne” fame actress Tanushree Dutta had revealed about her experiences in two different situations by actor Nana Patekar and director Vivek Agnihotri.
The talk on this movement was put on table in one of the shows that was organized by a national television media channel.
Actresses Rani Mukerji, Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone, Taapsee Pannu, Tabu and Alia Bhatt were invited to discuss their views on the movement.
The show turned it ‘three-on-one’ as Deepika, Alia and Anushka refused the points made by Rani.
Anushka had said that girls and women had become more introspective because of such instances and that if the workplace (which regards it to be the second sacred place after home) is not safe, then it was the worst place to be.
Rani clearly refused this statement and said that women should be more powerful and that they must learn to say ‘back off’ boldly and courageously when they face sexual abuse or harassment.
She also went on to say that girls must learn martial arts and defence techniques and that moms cannot teach everything at home.
Deepika replied to it by saying that not everyone was bold enough and that instead of blaming the girls all the time, it is time boys are taught to respect women.
Rani’s comments on #Metoo has invited a lot of criticisms on social media platforms.
