YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia has approached the Supreme Court, requesting the consolidation of multiple FIRs registered against him for allegedly making inappropriate comments on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent. A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh is set to hear the plea on Tuesday.
On Friday, Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former CJI DY Chandrachud, sought urgent consideration of the matter. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna assured that a bench would address it within a few days. The controversy erupted after Allahbadia’s remarks, leading to multiple FIRs in Maharashtra, Assam, and Rajasthan. Others named in the Assam case include YouTubers Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.
Authorities claim Allahbadia has been unresponsive to investigation agencies. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has summoned him for questioning on February 24, while Raina must appear on February 18. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also summoned them and others involved, citing offensive and inappropriate statements.
Amid concerns over personal safety and prior commitments, some have requested rescheduled hearings. Allahbadia cited death threats and secured a new date of March 6. Raina, currently in the U.S., will appear on March 11. He also issued a public apology and removed the videos, expressing regret for any offense caused.
The incident has sparked formal complaints with Mumbai authorities, alleging the use of explicit language for publicity and profit. The show has since been taken down.
