The recent landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, and captivating wildlife photographs were showcased during the World Photography Day celebrations organized by the Mysuru District Journalists Association (MDJA) at Pathrakarthara Bhavana in Mysuru on August 19.

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Ashaad-Ur-Rahman Shariff inaugurated the event, praising the local photographers for their socially relevant work. He noted that the images captured by Mysuru’s lensmen convey powerful messages and reflect their commitment to addressing social issues through photography.

Photo-journalist Vishwanath Suvarna, honored during the event, reminisced about the days of film photography when each shot was a precious memory. He highlighted that while digital cameras can capture countless images quickly, the true challenge for modern photo-journalists is to create memorable and novel images that stand out.

MDJA President K. Deepak presided over the event, which also featured speeches from General Secretary Dharmapura Narayan and other prominent figures including Pragathi Gopalakrishna, President of the Mysuru District Photo-journalists Association, and photo-journalists Anurag Basavaraj, M.N. Lakshminarayana Yadav, and S.R. Madhusudhan. Executive Committee Members Hampa Nagaraj, Nani Hebbal, Hangod Nataraj, Hullahalli Mohan, and Ravichandra Hanchya also attended the event.

The exhibition provided a unique opportunity to appreciate the intersection of art and social awareness through photography.
