A moderate explosion shook a village in the Imphal West district on Wednesday evening, causing widespread alarm among residents, according to officials. The blast occurred near the residence of one Okram Haridas in Kadangband Part-Two village, situated under the jurisdiction of Lamshang police station. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the explosion and the identity of those responsible remain unknown at this time. Senior police officials, along with additional security forces, quickly arrived at the scene to initiate a search operation aimed at apprehending the culprits. Many frightened villagers fled to safer areas following the incident.

Local residents speculated that the explosion might have been caused by a drone; however, this theory has yet to be verified. Kadangband village, located near the foothills of the tribal-dominated Kangpokpi district, has recently experienced multiple violent incidents.

This latest explosion occurred just three days after a live hand grenade was discovered at the gates of Ghanapriya Women’s College, which is less than 100 meters from the Raj Bhavan. The grenade’s recovery in such a high-profile area has intensified concerns among residents. The college is also close to the Governor’s residence and the official residence of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

Authorities continue to investigate the connection between these incidents, especially as several educational institutions in the Imphal Valley have reportedly received extortion threats.
