In a chilling case, authorities recovered the mutilated body parts of Mauli Satish Gavhane, a 19-year-old class 12 student who had been missing since early March. The gruesome discovery was made in two separate wells in Ahilyanagar, prompting police to initiate a murder inquiry.

Mauli hailed from Danewadi village in Shrigonda taluka, located near the Pune district boundary. On March 6, he informed his parents he was heading to Shirur to appear for his HSC board exams, scheduled for March 7 and 8. He had applied to take the exams externally.

However, after he left, Mauli’s family was unable to reach him and subsequently lodged a missing person’s report at Shirur police station under Pune Rural’s jurisdiction. Family members initially claimed to have seen him near the CT Bora College exam centre on March 7, but police later clarified that Mauli never arrived in Shirur.

On March 12, police in Shrigonda were alerted to a foul smell coming from a well in Dhanegaon village. Upon retrieving a bag, they found a decomposed torso with missing limbs and head. A separate discovery on March 15 in another well revealed the remaining body parts.

Mauli’s family identified the remains, though DNA testing is underway for confirmation. The Pune Rural police and Ahilyanagar crime units are actively pursuing leads.

Superintendent Rakesh Ola confirmed that multiple teams are probing the case, leaving no stone unturned.
