Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday detained an alleged habitual drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act in Kathua district as part of its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking.
The accused, identified as Parshotam Kumar, a resident of Dhalli village in Hiranagar tehsil, was taken into preventive custody after police executed a detention warrant issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu.
Police intensify anti-drug crackdown
According to police officials, Kumar is a repeat offender allegedly involved in the possession and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. He is currently facing two cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities said the preventive detention was ordered to stop the accused from allegedly engaging in further drug trafficking activities. Following his arrest, he was lodged in the District Jail, Udhampur.
Residents welcome police action
Police stated that the detention forms part of an intensified anti-narcotics drive across Kathua district aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade and protecting communities from the growing menace of substance abuse.
Officials added that local residents have welcomed the strong action taken against drug peddlers and expressed support for the ongoing campaign to create a drug-free society.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have reiterated their commitment to taking stringent legal action against individuals involved in narcotics-related offences while urging the public to cooperate by sharing information on drug trafficking activities.
