A popular restaurant in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district has been sealed by the district administration after a viral video showed a customer allegedly finding a dead rat in a plate of curd, triggering widespread outrage and serious concerns over food safety.

Viral video prompts swift action

The incident came to light after a video circulated widely on social media, showing the restaurant operator confronting staff over the shocking discovery. The visuals quickly drew the attention of senior district officials, who ordered an immediate inspection by the food safety department.

Inspection reveals hygiene violations

Food safety officials carried out a surprise inspection of the establishment following the viral clip. During the inspection, several violations related to hygiene and food safety standards were reportedly found. Officials confirmed that the restaurant operator admitted the presence of a dead rat in the curd served to the customer.

As part of the probe, food samples were collected and sent for laboratory testing to assess potential health risks to consumers.

Restaurant sealed, operations stopped

Based on the inspection findings, the food department ordered the immediate sealing of the restaurant. Authorities directed that all cooking and serving activities must stop until further notice.

Ramesh Chandra Pandey, Joint Director of the Food Department and Deputy Commissioner (First) of Food Safety in Ghazipur, said the action was taken strictly in response to the viral video and the violations found during inspection.

“Food safety standards cannot be compromised under any circumstances. Strict action will be taken against establishments found flouting the rules,” he said.
