Kolkata: The internal crisis within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) appears to be deepening, with party MP Saayoni Ghosh reportedly aligning herself with a growing faction of rebel lawmakers following the party’s recent electoral setbacks.

According to reports, the Jadavpur MP has joined a dissident group led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, which is said to include around 20 TMC Members of Parliament. The development comes amid increasing speculation about divisions within the party after its poor performance in the recent Assembly elections.

Saayoni Ghosh’s Reported Shift Raises Questions

Saayoni Ghosh has long been considered one of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s most visible supporters. Over the years, she has emerged as a prominent face of the party, often defending the TMC leadership and attacking political opponents.

Sources suggest that Ghosh has signed documents supporting the rebel faction, which reportedly conveyed its willingness to back the NDA. While she has not made any public statement regarding the matter, her reported move is being viewed as a significant development given her prominence within the party.

The MP is believed to be in Delhi, where several dissident lawmakers are reportedly stationed amid the ongoing political developments.

Rebellion Comes Amid Wider Party Crisis

The alleged rebellion follows growing dissatisfaction within sections of the party after the Assembly election results. Political observers believe the developments could represent one of the most serious internal challenges faced by the TMC in recent years.

The dissident camp, led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, reportedly submitted a communication to the Lok Sabha Speaker indicating support for the NDA, although the full implications of the move remain unclear.

Rajya Sabha Resignations Add To Pressure

The turmoil is not limited to the Lok Sabha. Two Rajya Sabha members have already resigned from both their parliamentary positions and the party.

Senior leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy resigned from the Rajya Sabha and the TMC, citing concerns over governance and corruption. His resignation marked one of the most high-profile exits from the party.

Soon after, Sushmita Dev also stepped down from her Rajya Sabha seat and party responsibilities. Her subsequent meeting with Himanta Biswa Sarma further fuelled speculation about her future political plans.

Political Implications

If the reports regarding Saayoni Ghosh’s alignment with the rebel camp are confirmed, it could intensify concerns about unity within the TMC ahead of future political battles. The party leadership has yet to issue a detailed response to the latest claims.

The coming days are expected to be crucial as the TMC attempts to contain the fallout from the reported rebellion while addressing questions surrounding its organisational cohesion and leadership structure.
