Angul: Late Friday night in Odisha’s Dhenkanal, seven elephants were killed after they were electrocuted by coming in contact with sagging wires which were live. This incident took place in Dhenkanal’s Kamalanga village.
Sudarshan Panda, the Additional Principal Conservator of Forest was heard stating that they had received information about the death of seven elephants by electrocution and that was when the officials rushed to the spot to figure out the circumstances of the incident which took place.
The forest officials say that a herd of 13 elephants were passing through the area when seven were heavily injured while the rest of them escapes. It was later that the seven succumbed to their injuries.
Reports state that the power line which was the cause of the incident was being set up in the area as part of a project of laying new railway lines.
The bodies of the elephants were found lying scattered in a small water channel which passes through a stretch of agricultural land.
