COIMBATORE: A headmaster from Kavundampatti in Salem district was transferred on Wednesday after allegations surfaced that he made girl students wash his lunch utensils during school hours. The School Education Department took swift action after a video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking outrage.
The accused, M. Jayakumar, was serving as the headmaster at the Panchayat Union Middle School (PUMS) in Kavundampatti, Edappadi block. The school has around 220 students enrolled. On Wednesday, several teachers and students alleged that Jayakumar directed a few girl students to clean his lunch vessels within the school premises.
District Educational Officer (Primary) in Tharamangalam promptly issued a memo seeking an explanation from the headmaster. Following this, officials visited the school and conducted inquiries with both students and the headmaster.
Given the seriousness of the charge, Jayakumar was transferred to another Panchayat Union Middle School at Alachampalayam within the same block, pending further action. Officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and disciplinary measures will follow.
“A memo has been issued, and necessary action will be taken,” an education officer told TNIE.
