Warangal: A 44-year-old security guard has been arrested for allegedly cheating private hostel organisers by posing as an employee of a reputed IT company and offering fake catering contracts, police said.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Shabbir alias Kiran Kumar alias Srikanth Reddy, is a resident of Quthbullapur in Hyderabad. According to Warangal Commissioner of Police N Swetha, he was allegedly involved in six cybercrime cases involving a total of Rs 13.09 lakh.
Fake IT employee offered catering contracts
Police said Shabbir allegedly created fake catering contract agreements and approached private hostel organisers in several districts and cities.
He reportedly claimed to represent a reputed IT company and promised to provide catering services for its employees. Using the fake contracts, he allegedly convinced hostel organisers to pay advance amounts.
Police said he carried out the alleged fraud in Hanamkonda, Adilabad, Nirmal, Khammam, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Hyderabad.
Police seize cash and documents
During the investigation, police seized Rs 36.99 lakh from the accused, along with three mobile phones and three SIM cards.
They also recovered two bank passbooks, a cheque book, two ATM cards and a diary, police said.
The accused was arrested under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act and was subsequently produced before a court.
Police said further investigation is underway into the cases and the alleged financial transactions linked to the accused.
