Amritsar: The Harminder Sahib, popularly known as the ‘Golden Temple’, will no longer allow devotees and tourists to click selfies or record TikTok videos on its premises.
This decision was taken by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which administers the Harmandir Sahib, keeping in mind the sanctity of the holy place.
SGPC has also deployed volunteers to see to it that no one violates this rule.
The committee has also put up notices that read, “TikTok is prohibited here”.
Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib said that if the devotees do not adhere to the rules, they will ask the committee to take a decision on banning mobile phones inside the Golden Temple.
Speaking to ANI, manager of Harmandir Sahib, Jaswinder Singh said that it was an appeal by the management to the devotees to refrain from making videos and clicking selfies, considering that it is a place of worship.
It can be recalled that there were several instances reported in the past, wherein a devotee had taken selfies and made a TikTok video near the Golden Temple using movie songs and making it a ‘fun video’. The committee had received several complaints regarding these activities and the volunteers guarding the area, as well as those involved in service of the Golden Temple, had requested the people not shoot videos or click photographs and selfies.
The committee took the decision after visitors started making videos and taking selfies again.
